Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, share and protect the information you give us, and the choices you have about it.

This Privacy Policy describes how Sunsets Loans ("we," "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit our website or submit a loan request through it. Our website lets borrowers send one loan request to multiple lenders at no cost, and we do not lend money ourselves. Because lenders need detailed information to evaluate a loan request, we take the responsibility of handling that information seriously.

By using our website or submitting a request, you agree to the practices described here. Please read this policy together with our Terms of Use, which govern your use of the site. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not submit information through our website.

Information we collect

We collect information you give us directly on the request form, information gathered automatically when you use the website, and information from third parties such as lenders, identity-verification services and consumer reporting agencies.

Information you provide

  • Identity and contact details: name, home address, email address, phone number and date of birth.
  • Identification numbers: Social Security number and, where requested, a driver's license or state ID number.
  • Financial details: income amount and source, pay frequency, employment information, housing status, and checking account and routing numbers.
  • Loan details: the amount you request, the purpose of the loan and related preferences.
  • Communications: anything you send us by email, phone, mail or chat.

Information collected automatically

When you browse our website, we and our service providers may collect your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring web page, pages viewed, time spent on pages, and general location derived from your IP address. Some of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies described below.

Information from third parties

Lenders and partners may tell us whether a request resulted in an offer or a funded loan. Verification and fraud-prevention services may confirm that the details you entered are accurate. Advertising partners may tell us which ad or link brought you to our website.

How we use your information

We use personal information to process and route your loan request, operate and protect our website, communicate with you, meet legal obligations, and improve our service.

  • Delivering your request to lenders and lending partners whose criteria may fit it.
  • Verifying your identity and helping detect and prevent fraud.
  • Responding to your questions and support requests.
  • Sending you service messages about your request and, with your consent, marketing about loan or financial products.
  • Analyzing how visitors use the website so we can fix problems and improve pages.
  • Complying with laws, regulations, legal process and requests from government authorities.
  • Enforcing our Terms of Use and protecting our rights and the safety of our users.

We do not use the sensitive financial details on your request, such as your Social Security number or bank account number, for any purpose other than processing your request, verifying identity and preventing fraud.

How we share your information

Your loan request goes to participating lenders and partners so they can evaluate it, and certain data goes to service providers that help us run the website; we do not sell your personal information for money.

Lenders and lending partners

When you submit a request, you authorize us to share it with lenders and partners that may be able to offer you a loan or a related financial product. Some partners are networks that may pass your request on to lenders they work with. Once a lender or partner receives your information, its use is governed by that company's own privacy policy, and you should review it before accepting an offer.

Service providers

We use vendors for website hosting, data storage, security, identity verification, email and text delivery, customer support tools and analytics. They may access personal information only as needed to perform services for us and are required to protect it.

Legal and business transfers

We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, to respond to a subpoena or court order, to protect against fraud, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others. If our business is sold, merged or reorganized, personal information may be transferred to the new owner, which will be bound by the commitments in this policy.

Some state privacy laws treat certain data sharing for advertising, or sharing in exchange for compensation, as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. Where those laws apply, you may opt out as described in the section on your privacy rights.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies, pixels and similar technologies to keep the request form working, remember your preferences, measure site traffic, and understand which advertising brought visitors to us.

Strictly necessary cookies allow features such as saving your progress on the form. Analytics cookies, which may be provided by third-party analytics services, collect aggregated information about how pages are used. Advertising cookies and pixels help measure the results of our ads and may be used by advertising partners to show you relevant ads on other websites.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although parts of the website may not work properly without them. Many browsers also let you send a Global Privacy Control signal; where required by law, we treat that signal as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for that browser.

Calls, texts and emails

When you submit a request and give your consent, we, lenders and partners may contact you by phone, text message and email about your request and related offers, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.

Consent to receive marketing calls or texts, including those made with automated technology or prerecorded messages, is not a condition of using our service or obtaining a loan. Message and data rates may apply to text messages, and message frequency varies.

  • Texts: reply STOP to any text message to stop receiving texts from that sender.
  • Email: use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing email.
  • Phone: ask the caller to place your number on their internal do-not-call list, or contact our team.

Opting out of our messages does not stop communications from a lender you have already chosen to work with; contact that lender directly to change its settings. We may still send you non-marketing messages about a request you submitted.

Your privacy rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to receive a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of certain sharing, including for targeted advertising.

Residents of California and of several other states with comprehensive privacy laws have rights that may include:

  • Access and portability: learning what categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of recipients.
  • Correction: asking us to fix inaccurate information.
  • Deletion: asking us to delete personal information, subject to legal exceptions such as records we must keep.
  • Opt-out: directing us not to sell or share your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
  • Limiting sensitive information: asking us to limit the use of sensitive personal information where the law gives you that right.
  • Non-discrimination: exercising these rights without being treated differently.

Some information we handle is covered instead by federal financial privacy laws, such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and certain state rights may not apply to it. To make a request, email us or write to us with "Privacy Request" in the subject line, or call our support line. We will verify your identity by matching information you provide with information we already hold, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows; we may ask for proof of the agent's authority. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision, where your state provides that right.

How we protect your information

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption of data sent through our request form and restricted access to stored data.

Access to personal information is limited to employees and service providers who need it to do their jobs. We review our security practices periodically and require vendors to maintain appropriate protections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot promise that information will never be accessed without authorization. If a breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify you as required by law.

You can help protect yourself by submitting requests only on a secure connection, never sharing your passwords, and being cautious of anyone who contacts you asking for an upfront fee.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary to process requests, provide our service, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and comply with legal and recordkeeping obligations, then delete or de-identify it.

Retention periods vary with the type of information and the reason we hold it. For example, records of the consent you gave to be contacted may be kept longer than routine analytics data, because we may need them to show that we followed the law. Lenders and partners that receive your request keep information according to their own retention policies.

Children's privacy

Our website and service are intended only for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 years of age.

If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has submitted information through our website, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our service or the law, and the version posted on this page is always the one in effect.

If we make a material change, we will post the revised policy here and, where required, notify you by email or through a notice on the website before the change applies to information we already hold. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
