About Our Loan-Request Service

We help people send one request for a $500 to $5,000 personal loan to lenders in our network, at no cost and with no obligation to accept anything.

Sunsets Loans is a free online loan-request and matching service for people in the United States who need a personal loan between $500 and $5,000. You complete one short form, and we pass it along to the lenders and partners in our network whose criteria fit your request. If a lender wants to make an offer, it shows you its own rate, fees and repayment schedule, and you decide what happens next.

We built the service around a simple idea: comparing small loans should not mean filling out the same details on six different websites, and it should never cost the borrower a fee just to look. The rest of this page explains who we are, what we do and do not do, how the business is paid, and the standards we hold ourselves to.

Who we are

Our team is a small group of people with backgrounds in consumer lending, customer support, web development and personal-finance writing, working out of an office in Columbus, Ohio, and serving borrowers across the country.

Several of us have sat on the other side of the desk, reviewing applications or answering calls from borrowers who were confused by the paperwork. That experience shapes how we run things. We would rather explain an annual percentage rate plainly than hide it behind a bright button, and we would rather tell someone a loan may not be the right move than push them toward one.

We are a technology and information service. Our job is to make the request step easier, to explain the choices clearly, and to step aside when you and a lender start talking about the terms of an actual loan.

What we do and what we do not do

We collect your loan request, share it with lenders and partners who may be able to make an offer, and publish educational guides; we never fund loans, choose interest rates or approve borrowers.

Here is how the responsibilities split:

  • We do: host the request form, keep your information protected while it is in our hands, route your request to lenders in our network, answer questions about the request process, and publish free guides about borrowing.
  • We do not: make credit decisions, fund loans, service loan accounts, collect payments, or set the APR, fees or term on any offer.
  • Lenders do: review your request, check credit and verify identity and income, decide whether to make an offer, set its terms, sign the loan agreement with you, send the funds and handle repayment.

Not everyone who submits a request is matched with a lender, and not everyone who is matched is approved. Lenders in our network commonly offer terms of about 3 to 36 months and APRs of about 5.99% to 35.99%; where an offer falls reflects the borrower's credit, income, state and requested amount. Those figures are estimates; the real terms are the ones a lender shows you. If you want the step-by-step view of a request from start to finish, our walkthrough of how the request process works covers it.

How we make money

The lenders and partners in our network pay us compensation when a request is matched with them, so borrowers never pay us anything to submit a request, review offers or use our guides.

Because lenders pay us, we think you deserve to know exactly how that works. Compensation can differ from one lender to another, and those arrangements may affect which lenders receive a request or the order in which offers appear. Compensation never changes the terms a lender sets for you, and it does not oblige you to accept anything. You can decline every offer you receive without any charge.

Our advertiser and lending disclosure spells out the compensation model, the range of terms you may see and how credit inquiries work, in more detail than we can fit here.

Editorial standards for our guides

Our guides are written to help readers make a borrowing decision, including the decision not to borrow, and the people who write them are not paid based on whether a reader submits a request.

A few rules govern everything we publish:

  • Plain math, labeled as estimates. When a guide shows a monthly payment, it shows how the number was reached and says that real terms come from the lender.
  • No invented statistics. If we cannot point to a reliable basis for a number, we leave it out rather than guess.
  • Honest trade-offs. Every loan type has a downside, and we name it. Savings, a payment plan with a provider, or a conversation with a nonprofit credit counselor is sometimes the better answer.
  • Careful with the law. Rules about credit reports, disclosures and state lending limits are described in general terms, and readers are pointed to the lender or the relevant agency for specifics.
  • Corrections. If a reader spots an error, we review it and update the guide.

Lenders do not review, approve or edit our guides before publication. You can browse the full library on our personal loan guides page.

The principles behind the service

Five commitments guide how we design the form, write our pages and answer the phone: clarity, no cost to borrowers, your control over decisions, careful handling of data, and respect for people who decide not to borrow.

  1. Clarity before speed. A fast process is only useful if you understand what you are agreeing to, so we explain APR, fees and term before you ever see an offer.
  2. Free means free. There is no fee to use our service, no paid upgrade and no charge for declining an offer.
  3. You stay in charge. Submitting a request does not commit you to a loan. You can stop at any point before you sign a lender's agreement.
  4. Data handled with care. We share request details only for the purposes described in our privacy policy and use encryption to protect information in transit.
  5. No pressure. Borrowing is sometimes the wrong choice, and our guides and support team will say so when it is.

Who our service is built for

Our service suits adults who need a modest, fixed-payment personal loan for a specific expense and want to compare what lenders can offer without visiting site after site.

Typical requests cover a car repair, a dental bill, moving costs, combining a couple of card balances, or a small amount of working capital for a side business. People with a range of credit histories use the form, although a weaker credit profile usually means fewer offers and higher rates. If you are weighing whether a loan fits your situation at all, our frequently asked questions are a good place to start.

The service is not designed for large purchases, mortgages, auto financing or business loans above $5,000, and it is not a solution for long-term budget shortfalls. If a loan payment would strain your monthly budget, it is worth pausing before you submit anything.

How to reach our team

Our team handles questions about the form, the details you submitted and our website six days a week, by email, by phone or by mail.

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Phone: (888) 874-7736
  • Mail: Suite 181, 2320 Hawthorn Boulevard, Columbus, OH 43215
  • Hours: weekdays from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Eastern; Saturdays 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Eastern

Questions about a specific loan, such as a payment date or a payoff amount, belong with the lender that issued it, since only that lender can see your account. For anything else, our contact page lists what to include so we can help on the first reply.
